What is the secret of our academic success?
How do you become bulletproof from low grades?
Do you sometimes struggle to stay motivated?
Answer: there is no magic wand or secret formula. Instead, the recipe for success and attaining high examination results is down to seven key components that you have to initiate yourself as a professional scholar – a scholar who sets out with a winning mindset of resilience.
Swift Tutors celebrates all our students’ success, but this is not limited to their excellent examination results including SATs, 11+, GCSE and A level. These results were outstanding for the summer of 2018 as the students managed to excel in the highest grades we have had since the new grading system was introduced at GCSE.
We achieve these results together – here’s how:
hard work is unavoidable but this doesn’t have to be grueling, dull or take over your life if done properly. Why not base your study around the ‘little but often’ principle? Regularly studying, updating and keeping fully involved with your studies is an incredible key to success.
1. Set achievable goals and attain them. Be realistic about what you can achieve but stretch yourself enough to avoid drifting into the ‘comfort zone’.
2. Celebrate – make sure that you feel at the very core of your own curiosity voyage. Learning is a journey not a static destination. Results will reflect your effort and help you unlock the next part of the journey.Celebrate your own mini wins and successes and achievements. This is a very important habit to nurture as it will enable you to feel positive, confident and in control of your own learning journey.
3. Use examination papers regularly. Consistently create new and fresh ways of learning important information based around exam paper content, you will familiarize yourself with the wording, content, variety and question types and styles of the exam you will be sitting.
4.Think like an examiner! This is quite simple to do – obtain a copy of the marking criteria and carefully study it with a study buddy, mentor or tutor, so that you can assess and evaluate your own work and answers effectively. This activity will help you think and look at your work like a professional who would mark your work critically according to the marking guidelines.
5. Do not be afraid to ask for help and actively seek this out. It may seem convenient if you have a family member or a friend who can help but nothing can replace a qualified, experienced, professional tutor who knows their subject inside out, and is trained and skilled in the craft of teaching it to students.
6. Discover what type of learner you are such as visual, kinaesthetic or auditory – then create a bespoke array of learning tools such as colorful, bright, clear revision cards, posters, booklets, sample answers, micro chunks of key topics to memorize.
7. Be proactive, use your time wisely, create a learning schedule that works for you and your specific needs. Finally, do the work by trying to improve your own self-discipline by sticking to your study routine. Creating more self-discipline will help you develop as a scholar as you will inevitably become more structured, more focused and more organised – because without it your own work quality and overall standard will drop and you can spiral into apathy and procrastination.
Let’s keep working consistently together, taking the steps to success together, and ultimately, we can all celebrate another year of academic success and personal wins.
